Beckham arrives

The news was not accompanied by any trumpets blaring or an official proclamation issued by Mayor Daley. It was a simple announcement made after the White Sox loss to Oakland on Wednesday.

Gordon Beckham is coming to the Majors.

The White Sox top pick in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft and the eighth pick overall will have his contract purchased from Triple-A Charlotte prior to Thursday afternoon’s contest and infielder Wilson Betemit will be designated for assignment. Beckham figures to get his primary playing time at third base but will see time across the infield and even as a designated hitter.

One thing is for certain–the White Sox did not call up Beckham to sit on the bench. He has a .326 average with 23 doubles, four home runs and 25 RBIs in 45 combined games this season between Double-A Birmingham and Charlotte. Beckham has a .322 average in 59 career Minor League games.

Well, the Josh Fields experiment has finally ended.

actually the Wilson Betemit experiment has finally ended.

I hope that he is mature enough to play at this level and that moving him up now will not harm what can be the centerpiece of the future.
Play Brian Anderson more so he gets back in the groove he was approaching.
Kenny, get a pitcher and we will be OK, the Sox are almost OK playing all over the page, tighten it up please!

I look forward to seeing what this kid can do! Leave Anderson on the bench and the Sox will be fine.

When I first read the news, I could hardly contain my excitement. It’s clear now that Beckham has the talent to be a Major Leaguer, but I wonder if he’ll be able to make the leap so early into his professional career.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Gordon Beckham becoming the next Ryan Zimmerman.

With a QUALITY infielder to spell all three positions it can only help. With his addition and the return of Quentin and warm weather this great swami sees good things oh ye of little faith!

By the way….when was the last time you saw 2 baserunners thrown out in one game.

0-10? I thought this guy was good. Back to AAA for Beckham.
